Non-invasive brain stimulation and biofeedback

Neuromodulation refers to techniques that influence the activity of neural circuits in a targeted, non-invasive way. They can complement medication or, in selected cases, serve as an alternative. Whether a particular method is right for you is decided in a detailed initial consultation that includes a neurological examination.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)

In rTMS, brief magnetic pulses delivered through the scalp stimulate specific regions of the brain. The procedure requires no anesthesia and has the strongest scientific evidence in the treatment of depression; it is also used for chronic pain syndromes and in neurorehabilitation. A course of treatment usually involves several sessions over a number of weeks.

Transcranial electrical stimulation (tDCS, tRNS, tACS)

Transcranial electrical stimulation uses weak currents delivered through scalp electrodes to modulate the excitability of the cerebral cortex. Depending on the clinical question, different forms are used — direct current (tDCS), random noise (tRNS), or alternating current (tACS). Treatment is generally well tolerated; typical applications include depression, chronic pain, and support for training and rehabilitation programs.

Biofeedback / neurofeedback

Biofeedback makes physiological signals — such as muscle tension, heart rate, or brain activity — visible, so you can learn to influence them yourself; for example, in tension-type headache, migraine, stress-related complaints, or attention disorders.
