Dr. med. Sein Schmidt
Dr. med. Sein Schmidt (*USA) is a board-certified neurologist with more than twenty years of clinical and research experience at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He completed his neurology residency at the Charité (2004–2014), with rotations in inpatient care, the stroke unit, outpatient clinics, clinical neurophysiology and neurosonology, as well as psychiatry and neuroradiology, and was board-certified by the Berlin Medical Association (Ärztekammer Berlin) in 2014.
He earned his doctorate (Dr. med.) from the Charité in 2009 for research on functional brain imaging, graded magna cum laude. His work has long centered on central motor control, neural plasticity, and non-invasive brain stimulation. His research investigates how human brain function can be measured and modified using functional neuroimaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and electrical brain stimulation.
At the Charité and the Berlin Institute of Health, he was Deputy Head of the Clinical Study Center. The aim of this work was to translate research findings into patient care more quickly. He was Founding Director of the German PROMIS® Center and of the med-tech collaboration between the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) and the Charité. As a trial physician and principal investigator, he was involved in numerous international clinical trials, particularly in stroke research. This combination of clinical experience and current scientific evidence informs his work at the practice.
More recently, he has made substantial contributions to research on fatigue and cognitive impairment after COVID-19, including his involvement in developing neurological characterization at the Charité Fatigue Centrum, a prospective multicenter study, a population-based longitudinal study, and a neuromodulation study of post-COVID cognitive impairment.

More than 15 of his publications address neuromodulation and non-invasive brain stimulation, while others examine health-related quality of life.
